Southwest Airlines would like to thank everyone who submitted entries for the 2008 Adopt-A-Pilot CAREER TAKEOFF National Contest. Our admiration goes out to all participants -- we received a record number of entries this year, and the quality of the research, writing and design was better than ever. Your portfolios demonstrate not only the creativity of our Adopt-A-Pilot classes, but also the dedication of teachers, Pilots, and students to make the most of this learning adventure.

Captain's Award
Poetry Community Christian School in Poetry, Texas; "Adopted" Pilot Shawn Blankenship; Teacher Sherri Duggan
The Captain's Award winner will enjoy a daylong roundtrip "flying field trip," departing from Dallas Love Field and landing at Houston Hobby, where the class will blast off for an "out of this world" adventure at Space Center Houston.
First Officer's Awards
Avalon Elementary in Orlando, Florida; "Adopted" Pilot Scott Heffner; Teacher Tara Ruyter
Lake Whitney Elementary in Winter Garden, Florida; "Adopted" Pilot Gerald Brown; Teacher Susan Renee Leach
The First Officer's Award winners will be treated to special school celebrations where their hard work will be honored, and they will receive $250 cash scholarship for classroom supplies.
